In this piece I investigate how intensifying extractive forestry practices transform ecosystems and threaten biodiversity.
Tracing the timescales of a forest, I narrate the story of a pine growing in two different forest environments: a naturally-regenerating forest and a tree plantation. Accompanied by ecological definitions, concepts and moments, this contribution unfolds in the form of a large-scale timeline spanning the whole pavilion installation.
Extending over 500 years, this rhizomatic constellation of illustrated texts and diagrams informs the length, and defines the space of the installation itself. As they climb and explore the installation, children and adults alike will encounter other exhibits and specimens of diverse timber species alongside other contributions.
